This week we talked about the contrast between guilt and grace. These are the definitions for some key words that we discussed this week:
Guilt: the fact of committing and offense in which a debt is owed.
Grace: Unmerited favor
Mercy: the pardon given to a guilty party.
We discussed this week that we are all guilty and we have all sinned. Grace allows us to receive the blessings of God, even though we deserve punishment. Guilt brings judgement on us, mercy removes the debt that we owe, grace gives us blessings that we don't deserve. Like the woman caught in adultery in John 8, we see that she was guilty, but Jesus offers her mercy. While showing mercy to the woman, he is able to show the Pharisees what the Law was really all about.
Guilt, grace and mercy are so important for us to understand. We will continue to look into this important topic in the coming weeks.
Grace Wins!!!
