The Bible: Our Spiritual GPS

Writer's picture: Angela FrostAngela Frost

I remember when Mapquest was a great innovation. You could go on the website and find directions to wherever you wanted to go and then the website would give you turn by turn directions. You would have to print them out and follow the directions as they appeared on the pages. There were not voice prompts. You just had to keep your eyes peeled to find the exact streets to turn down.

Then came the technology of the Global Positioning System. Now you could allow the GPS to tell you exactly when to turn. This video gives you an idea of how far our technology has come.

In Luke 6: 46-49 Jesus draws a distinction between the person who hears the Word of God and obeys it and those who don't. The person who obeys the Word of God is called a wise man, while those who don't obey the Word of God are called foolish men. Reading and studying the Bible is only valuable if we take the time to actually do what it says. Just like a GPS if we do not follow the instructions that are laid out by the GPS you will never get to where you want to go to. The same thing applies to God's Word. We need to listen and obey. James 2:14-26 shows us that true faith will produce true works. The wise man does not just listen and read the Bible, the wise man obeys it.

When we don't listen intently to what God says we can end up like Michael Scott in following video.

Always obey the Word of God, and make sure you get the renters insurance. Just checking to see who watched the video!
