Week # 1: Beginning and Ends.

Ice cream sundaes are such a wonderful discovery. If you are like me than you have been faced with the dilemma at the sundae bar, exactly what toppings should I put on my sundae. There have been times where i have topped my ice cream with hot fudge, peanuts, M&M's , Oreo's. peanut butter cups, whipped, cherry, cotton candy, and a piece of chocolate cake. I exaggerate, but only a little. Sometimes my dessert is wonderful and amazing. Other times this dessert and all the choices cause my dessert to become a sweetened form of Frankenstein's monster.

This week we started looking at the beginning of the Bible in Genesis 1. God created the heaven's and the earth. How did he do this? "God said let there be light and there was light." Genesis 1:3 God created everything with His word. God said it and it happened. The creation did not just happen, but it happened perfectly. God did not use the process of trial and error to create the world, He said for there to be a sun, and the sun went exactly where it needed to be.

“Our solar system also contains thousands of asteroids and meteoroids. These sometime collide with planets. Jupiter keeps large rocks from hitting earth by attracting them with its strong gravity. The earth's huge moon also protects us from many of rocks that cross our planet's path. The craters across the moon's surface demonstrate the frequency something has collided with the moon instead of earth. The moon's South Pole—Aitken basin—is the largest known crater in our solar system. It is eight miles deep and 1500 miles across. The earth's moon is unusually large. In addition, our huge moon is a stabilizing anchor for our planet. Our moon prevents our planet from tilting too far from the attraction of the sun or Jupiter. We are protected because of the way our solar system was created.” (Institute for Creation Research, The Institute for Creation Research (icr.org)

This is amazing. God spoke and everything went exactly where it needed to be. The in Revelation we see that in chapter 19 , that the final battle between good and evil ends with a word coming out of Jesus' mouth. In Revelation 22 Jesus says that he is the beginning and the end. Jesus and His word are so amazing. So what does this all mean. I want to provide two points of application for us today:

  1. The Bible as God's word has supernatural power, and we should take more time this year in reading and studying God's word.

  2. Jesus is the beginning and ending of all things. We can always turn to Jesus in everything.
